Michele Chiarlo

Family Owned and Artfully Made

A place is never just a point on a map – it’s shaped by the people who live it, choose it, and carry its memory with them.

a guiding principle of the Chiarlo family

About

Michele Chiarlo bottled his first Barolo in 1958, beginning with just a few hectares of vineyards and an ambition to express the very best of Piedmont. Today, the family estate is led by his sons, Stefano and Alberto, who continue the work he began more than six decades ago.

The estate now encompasses more than 110 hectares across Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi, including parcels in some of Piedmont’s most celebrated crus: Cerequio and Cannubi in Barolo, and Asili and Faset in Barbaresco.

Still family owned, Michele Chiarlo has become one of Piedmont’s most recognized names, with a history closely tied to the region’s pursuit of quality and the growing recognition of its individual vineyards.

At La Court, the family’s connection between wine, landscape and art takes physical form. Set among the Barbera vineyards of Castelnuovo Calcea, the estate is home to the Art Park La Court, where contemporary works are integrated into the vineyard landscape. Art is not simply displayed here; it becomes part of the experience of the place, reflecting the Chiarlo family’s belief that wine, culture and landscape are deeply connected.

That same respect for place shapes the family’s approach to the future. Sustainability, biodiversity and the preservation of Piedmont’s landscape are central to their work, both in the vineyard and the winery. Michele Chiarlo was among the first Italian wineries to achieve VIVA certification, reflecting a long-term commitment to protecting the land for the generations that follow.
