Ricasoli

Nine Centuries of Brolio

Ricasoli Ceniprimo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

CeniPrimo is Sangiovese seen through one very particular place. Grown on an ancient river terrace in Gaiole, the wine has the depth and generosity of the vintage, but also a striking sense of precision. Floral, layered and beautifully structured, it is a powerful expression of Chianti Classico without losing its elegance.

Ricasoli

The story of Ricasoli and Castello di Brolio stretches back to 1141, making it one of the oldest family wine estates in the world. Today, Francesco Ricasoli represents the 32nd generation of the family at Brolio, continuing a relationship with this corner of Chianti Classico that has endured for nearly nine centuries.

Few families are as closely connected to the history of a wine region. In the 19th century, Baron Bettino Ricasoli, statesman and later Prime Minister of Italy, carried out years of research and experimentation at Brolio that led to his documented formula for Chianti wine in 1872.

Today, the estate extends across a remarkable mosaic of vineyards surrounding Castello di Brolio. Differences in altitude, exposure and geology create distinct growing environments, and under Francesco Ricasoli the estate has undertaken extensive research to better understand these individual sites and the character they give to Sangiovese.

That work has helped shape the modern identity of Ricasoli: deeply historic, but never static. From its research into soils and clonal selection to the increasingly precise expression of individual vineyards, Brolio continues to evolve while remaining firmly rooted in the landscape the Ricasoli family has cared for for generations.

The Wine

The CeniPrimo vineyard sits around 300 metres above sea level on soils formed by an ancient river terrace. Fine silty deposits, clay and limestone create a distinctive environment for Sangiovese, giving the wine its combination of concentration, freshness and finely drawn tannins.

Formulation

100% Sangiovese

The grapes are selected and harvested by hand before fermentation and a long, gentle maceration. The wine then spends 22 months in 500-litre tonneaux, allowing the character of the vineyard to remain at the centre while adding depth, texture and complexity.

Aroma

Expressive and finely detailed, with ripe red cherry and darker fruit opening into violet, sweet spice and subtle balsamic notes. There is generosity here, but also a freshness that keeps the aromatics lifted and precise.

Palate

Broad and enveloping on the palate, yet beautifully balanced. The fruit is layered with spice and savoury nuances, carried by vibrant acidity and polished, almost sweet tannins. The finish is long, harmonious and persistent.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese

Goes Well With

CeniPrimo has the structure for bistecca alla Fiorentina, roast beef and game, but its freshness makes it surprisingly versatile at the table. A wine that rewards time in the glass and will continue to develop beautifully with age.
