Ricasoli

Nine Centuries of Brolio

Ricasoli Colledila Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Colledilà is one of the great single-vineyard expressions of Sangiovese at Brolio. Grown high on the estate on the limestone-rich soils known as alberese, it is a wine of structure and remarkable precision. Ripe fruit, fine tannins and freshness come together in a distinctly contemporary expression of Chianti Classico.

Ricasoli

The story of Ricasoli and Castello di Brolio stretches back to 1141, making it one of the oldest family wine estates in the world. Today, Francesco Ricasoli represents the 32nd generation of the family at Brolio, continuing a relationship with this corner of Chianti Classico that has endured for nearly nine centuries.

Few families are as closely connected to the history of a wine region. In the 19th century, Baron Bettino Ricasoli, statesman and later Prime Minister of Italy, carried out years of research and experimentation at Brolio that led to his documented formula for Chianti wine in 1872.

Today, the estate extends across a remarkable mosaic of vineyards surrounding Castello di Brolio. Differences in altitude, exposure and geology create distinct growing environments, and under Francesco Ricasoli the estate has undertaken extensive research to better understand these individual sites and the character they give to Sangiovese.

That work has helped shape the modern identity of Ricasoli: deeply historic, but never static. From its research into soils and clonal selection to the increasingly precise expression of individual vineyards, Brolio continues to evolve while remaining firmly rooted in the landscape the Ricasoli family has cared for for generations.

The Wine

At 380 metres above sea level, the Colledilà vineyard faces southeast across the hills of Gaiole. Beneath the vines lies alberese, the stony clay-limestone soil associated with the Monte Morello formation and one of the defining geological signatures of Chianti Classico. Rich in calcium carbonate and naturally poor in organic matter, it gives Sangiovese a distinctive combination of structure, freshness and finesse.

Formulation

100% Sangiovese
The finest grapes are selected and harvested by hand before fermentation and gentle maceration on the skins. Colledilà then spends 22 months in 500-litre tonneaux, followed by further ageing in bottle. The approach builds complexity and texture while preserving the clarity and character of the vineyard

Aroma

Elegant and expressive, opening with ripe cherry, strawberry and plum, followed by spice and subtle notes of vanilla and oak. The fruit remains clear and vibrant, giving the wine an aromatic profile that feels both generous and refined

Palate

Juicy and beautifully structured, with ripe red fruit carried by a fine, persistent tannic frame. There is depth without heaviness, with freshness and precision bringing definition to the wine and leading into a long, elegant finish.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese

Goes Well With

Colledilà has the structure for roasted and grilled meats, but its freshness and finely drawn tannins make it equally compelling with simpler Tuscan dishes. Pair with bistecca alla Fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar, roast veal, porcini mushrooms or aged pecorino.
