Pomerol: Château Gazin 2019

Château Gazin is one of the historic estates of Pomerol, situated on the appellation's celebrated plateau, neighbouring the vineyards of Pétrus and Château L'Évangile. Predominantly Merlot, the 2019 vintage captures the richness and generosity of the Right Bank while retaining a remarkable sense of elegance. Deeply coloured, beautifully structured and refined, it is a classic expression of one of Bordeaux's most distinguished terroirs.

Grapes

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc

Character

Expressive and layered, with ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum joined by delicate notes of violet and truffle. Subtle hints of spice, tobacco and dark chocolate emerge with time in the glass, giving the wine an aromatic character that is both generous and beautifully refined. On the palate the wine is rich and velvety, with ripe dark fruit carried by supple, finely textured tannins. The 2019 has impressive concentration, yet its freshness and balance keep the wine remarkably elegant. Layers of black cherry, cassis and gentle spice unfold across the palate, leading into a long, harmonious finish. Already approachable, it has the structure and complexity to develop beautifully with further ageing.

Goes well with

Gazin's combination of richness, elegance and supple tannins makes it a natural partner for classic French cooking. Pair with roast duck, herb-crusted rack of lamb, beef tenderloin with mushrooms or slow-braised veal. Its savoury depth also works beautifully with wild mushrooms and mature cheeses.
